Josie and Tony are back for another savory mystery!

This time, with a stack of pancakes on the side.

Since having their relationship outed—much to Josie's dislike—the couple has been summoned by Mama Rizzo to the family's breakfast diner for a Sunday morning brunch.

A mouthwatering spread is expected from Josie's culinary-genius parents, but serve up a rebellious older brother, a furry bacon thief, and a wealthy businessman bludgeoned to death, makes for a very unappetizing event.

Josie soon learns that before the wealthy stranger's demise, his plans of rebuilding the town into a flashy money-grabbing hotspot would've affected the town's hardworking locals. Which leaves quite the list of suspects of who may have wanted him dead.

Unfortunately, Josie's parents are on the police's radar for the crime.

Backed by an army of Rizzo brothers, she, Tony, and best friend Brad set out to uncover the truth in the beachy town of JewelCove, where a killer lurks deeper in the shadows than french toast sticks do in a bowl of maple syrup…

My Review

Buttered and Scrambled with Murder is the 4th book in the Josie Rizzo Cozy Mystery series, and in my opinion the best one to date.  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the first three but this one just grabbed me and wouldn't let go.  This is a face paced easy read the I finished in the course of my lunch hour.

This series is made up of novella's so for me they are more character driven then mystery. With 103 pages to this story the mystery is not as drawn out as a full length cozy mystery. But don't let that fool you.  It is a well done mystery that is fully wrapped up in the time allotted.  I did not guess the culprit, or to be honest even have that character on the list of suspects.

What I love most about this series are the characters.  At this point, they continue to grow and develop.  They feel like old friends and each story is a chance to catch up.  With each new story we have met a few more members of the Rizzo Family.  Let me just say, I LOVE Gina Rizzo, Josie's mother.  She is the typical mama bear and provides a lot of humor in this book.  I hope we get to see more of her in future stories.  I think Josie and Tony's relationship is developing nicely as well.  It feel natural and not forced, which I like.  I also am enjoying Josie's growth in her professional career as well.

Be prepared, however.  There is a cliffhanger that has to do with a sub-mystery that has run through all of the books to date.  It left me with my mouth open and a little frustrated because the author has indicated we won't get the 5th Josie Rizzo book until the fall.  I cannot wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

If you havent' tried this series yet, you might consider it.  This series is a quick enjoyable read that has wonderful characters, good writing and solid mysteries. You will want to come back to see what this author has up her sleeve next for Tony and Josie.
